Stevens 200 25-06

I've been offered a pretty sweet deal on a Stevens model 200 in 25-06. I've been reading some of the old posts put and was happy to see that there are some of you out there who have model 200's in 25-06. I was just wondering overall what the general thoughts are on these guns and in the 25-06 caliber? From what I've been reading these guns have been liking the heavier bullets (117gr, give or take a little) has anyone played with lighter grain bullets, say maybe down around 85gr? If I decide to get the gun I was going to make it into a dual duty gun for whitetails and coyotes. Does anyone have a caliber they prefer in this model over another? Just wonder what everybodies thoughts are.

Gonna take my new Stevens 25-06 to the range and see how it shoots.  I'll be using factory Rem 120 cor- loks for now as my reloading stuff has not come in yet.  So far all I've done is a good cleaning and lighten the trigger some.

Overall, I think it will be good cheap investment that should do wonders on the local deer population.

Have one and it's a great shooter. Dime size groups at 100 with fed 117 hot-cores(factory).

How sweet is the deal?  Shoot be a shooter.  The Stevens 200 is really just a pre accutrigger Savage 110.  Your biggest complaints are generally the trigger or the stock.  Neither are that bad, but can easilly be fixed.  go to sharp shooters supply.  Treplacement stocks they make an excellent line of replacement stocks, and an excellent aftermarket trigger.  I think timney also makes an aftermarket trigger.  And all that is really only if the rifle you have is intollerable.

I have a model 112 300 wm that I bought a few years back.  Worked great, hold about 5/8" to 3/4" all day long, hot cold, any ammo.  Just not at all finicky about what I feed it.  I put on a SSS stock, and have a the triggger if I ever get around to it.  the stock caused groups to tighten up ever so slightly, and I am worse than the trigger.  I hesitate to get rid of all my excuses for poor groups, then ihave nothing left but me to blame.

My father-in-law who owns a gun shop has found his business growing by leaps and bounds and doesn't have much time to do stuff around his house anymore. He said if I cut up his pile of logs, split it, and stack it I could have the 25-06 free of charge! That's the sweet deal I was talking about and I'm one of those freaks who really like to do firewood, so I make out good twice!!!!!
