44 Rem Mag in 444 Marlin Encore?
« on: June 26, 2004, 11:23:51 AM »
Is it ok to shoot regular 44 rem mag ammo in an Encore carbine chambered for the 444 Marlin?  According to my loading manual there are slight differences, but to me it looks like it would work.  I imagine that there would be a loss of accuracy due to the jump to the rifling.  Anybody doing this?  How is the accuracy?

Thanks,

Nope, don't do it.  The 444 Marlin is NOT an extended 44 Mag case.  It's actually derrived from the 30-06 case (believe it or not).

There was never any interchangability designed between the two cartridges.
