Remington Model 510 Targetmaster

Today I bought a Remington 510 Targetmaster and after some research, I found out that it was made in Dec, 1945....It has a number 48 stamped on the right side of the barrel. Does anyone know what this number means? I don't think this it is a serial number. How about a value for this gun?
