Ramrod Question

Hey guys,

I have a TC Omega and I was wondering what other Omega owners were using for a ramrod setup while hunting.

While at the range, the factory supplied rod with a screw-in T handle and a short jag on the end works just great, but the rod must be disassembled before it can be put it back on the gun.

I guess if I had to, I could carry a short starter with me and after I had the bullet partially down the barrel I could use the ramrod, (without any attachments on it), to push the bullet down the rest of the way, but I just know there has to be a better way.

Any suggestions?

You mean you load sabots and you don't own a short starter? With good shot placement a super fast reload is not needed.

That's why most Ml'ers out there have some-sort of Possibles Bag with them hunting. I use an Army surplus store belt with three pouches. I wear it for my ramrod extention, primers, primer extractor, powder vials, multi-bullet vial, short-starter, small screw-on T-handle, patches, knife, compass, marking tape roll, small flashlight, bandaids, Bic lighter...... etc.

I just use a XS Sights Powerrod on my Omega. I don't use a short starter. You'll have a hard time finding one in the right length as T/C bought the patent. I want another but I can't get the one I want now.

What does the Power Rod have on it for a tip?
I'm using XTP's with MMP HPH24 sabots and they go down the barrel pretty easy, so the T-handle is not really necessary for hunting.
It's just that the ramrod with the sabot jag attached to the "loading end", does not fit in the thimbles under the barrel.
 I can attach the loading jag to the "handle end" of the ramrod and it goes on the rifle OK, but the jag extends out about an inch beyond the end of the barrel.
I was just wondering if someone out there had come up with a better solution.
A friend of mine has a CVA and apparently they solved this problem by simply making the loading jag a permanent part of the ramrod.

The last inch is a removable brass tip. I use it to load SST's and Barnes Spitfires. For other bullets I use the tips included with the CVA powerbelt bullet starter. 2/3 of the tips with the starter fit under the barrel and the one that doesn't is for the tipped bullets which the ramrod tip works well for already.

If you want one I'd Contact T/C. They have the patent.
