Contender or XP-100?

I got several questions if you guys could help.So here they go..

1)If given the choice for causual target shooting which cal. would you choose .....221 Fireball or .223Rem?

2) I have always liked the XP100 but never owned one.Did they come in .223 cal.

3) What type of issues did this pistol have ie.. poor trigger  or anything you think is a negative.

4) If I was to go with another TC what barrel length would you suggest with the .221 & .223

5) What could I expect to pay for a really nice XP-100 with no scope.

If in factory stock condition then the XP's have been known to have "NOT GREAT BUT NOT POOR" triggers due to the long linkages for the forward trigger.

They have also been known to be gunsmith adjusted into some fine trigger pulls.

I'm not sure the XP's are still offered as I don't see them listed by Remington.

If a good deal on a used one is coming your way I don't think I'd hesitate.  IF YOU LIKE IT, GET IT.

I assume you are talking about a center grip XP-100? They were also made with a rear grip (newer ones)
I have 2 center grip XP-100's one in 221 the other in 7br. Both are factory except the stock has been changed. Accuracy from both is amazing for a handgun. In my area even tha farm land is populated so for me the 221 is the way to go. I use Hornady SX bullets to help keep bullets from bouncing off the neighbors houses

Hairtrigger,

The ones Im intrested in has the nylon stock like the old 66.Is this the one you are speaking of?

Neither XP is made by remington, butyou can find them on the used market. 
My preference is the center-grip style.  reming did make a 223 XP.  it would be my choice over the 221 Fireball. 
I have had both.
For me, the desire for a XP is in it's ability to be customized.
All of my triggers have been adj. by smiths and they are great.
The brown and sometime balck nylon center-grip stocks are the older style centergrip single-shot XP's.
First ones were 221 fireball and then later you could get them in 223, 7mm BR, and 35 Rem.
Later some custom shop versions were available in different chamberings.
A factory XP without a scope would run somewhere between $300-$550 in my area.

My 15" 223 Contender will shoot 1" 100 yard groups, G2 has a very good trigger.Plus, you can get different caliber barrels too..........
