You know, I don't at all mind that the ACLU pounces on all kinds of rights issues, even when a right has not been codified by law. More freedom is always better. However, I find myself at odds with the ACLU because, on occasion, and like many authoritarian socialists, they seem to forget that one man's rights end where the other man's begin.
The ACLU doesn't seem to recognize the First and Second Amendments. That wouldn't be a problem, except for the fact that they actively support the violation of the admendments, either legally, or by taking membership fees and donating/supporting groups that seek to violate them. There is no provision in the First for insulating one group from another's religious activities. All the amendment says is that "Congress shall make no law" and that it shall not "prohibit the free exercise" of it. The First is not specific about location, so this includes publicly-owned property. The ACLU's attack from the federal level obviously constitute an attempt to "prohibit the free exercise" of religion.
Then there's the abortion issue...
