Keith bullets in .475???
« on: August 21, 2006, 03:24:11 PM »
I am trying to get a FA in .475 to shoot with a Lee mold with no luck. This mold is so out of round it shaves the grease grooves and even the shoulder of the bullet. I'm wondering it anyone have tried a semi-wadcutter Keith style bullet in this caliber and could it be made to wiegh at leaset 380grs? I would really prefer 400 grs but this Lee mold is impossible. I  would send it back but they would probably just send one just as bad or worse.
I wonder if LBT could make what I need, but don't know how to contact them.

rcbs makes a real nice swc 400 grain mold but its a single cavity. Ive killed whitetail and wild boar with that bullet and it worked great and is an accurate bullet. Mount Baldy bullets also sells a real nice swc that Frank designed if you want to buy them.

I believe NEI has some good designs in .475 as well. Might check their online catalog. As for LBT, he's easy to contact - look a couple of lines below this forum and he's there. As for Lee, I'd send that mould back anyway. I just sent back a terribly out of round 45-70 mould and got back one that is perfect. They paid postage from their end, so it was just a couple of bucks to get a good mould instead of throwing away the one I had. They were very helpful and even called to make sure I am happy with my new one.

Thanks guys. I see I have several options. Has no one heard or seen a Keith design? I suspect it would be too light.

Here's one I designed for the 480 Ruger. It won't work in the short cylinder of the FA. But it does show a heavy Keith can be had in .475/476 dia...............Creeker

Dia. .475” .476”
OAL .960”
Meplat .370”
Crimp to Meplat .440”

This bullet is designed for the .480 Ruger.

Good looking bullet LAH. A shame I can't use it in my FA. What does it weigh?
