It's not to early to start planning your Fall black bear hunt! For a review of Minnesota's offerings, go to  http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/hunting/bear/hunt2006.html    8)

I can't wait!  Going this week to apply for a tag, I am a little worried since I will be hunting in a different area this year. Fishing opener hasn't even come and I am can't stop thinking about bear hunting, I might have problems.

There's only about 3 weeks left for you to apply to hunt one of the 'controlled' bear areas in Minnesota. While some of the state is not 'controlled' and you can purchase a tag much later in the year, there are far more bears in the 'controlled' areas. Read the DNR web site mentioned at the start of this thread for details. Application can be done on the 'net. If you are unfamiliar with MN, or with bear hunting itself, that site also has a long list of bear guides. 8)

I just read that the DNR is not posting the lottery results online anymore.  That's stinks, I really liked being able to find out if I drew a tag long before I got the conformation in the mail.  They said that the letters will be mailed out the first week in June which is a little better.

How does the bear hunting look this year in Minnesota? I went 3 years ago and enjoyed it but may go again sometime.

I can't speak for the whole state in general, but where I hunt ( 80 miles north or Minneapolis) it should be fantastic hunting.  No acorns, berries, and very little corn.

Any reports on how the bear hunting is going? Have not heard a word yet. Should be almost perfect.
