Finger Pinch on Contender?
« on: August 17, 2006, 10:00:25 AM »
Im having trouble with my index finger on my non shooting hand  getting pinched or bruised by the spur .Is there any remedy for this other than changing the way I grip? Any pic on correctly gripping a contender?

Different strokes for different folks, of course, but I've experienced what you mention and have come to believe that in most cases, for a Contender or Encore, the off hand belongs on the forearm, not the grip.

When I fire my TC's my off hand is gripping with the lower three fingers only. My thumb is pointed up and my index finger is pointed straght forward. Same way you pretend you are pointing a gun with your hand. This works esspecially well for the big kickers.   KN

So you use the fore arm for both sandbagging and a hunting situation such as when using a mono pod?

Gary Reeder who has a custom gun site has a method of holding a single shot that is pretty good.  I have been using a slightly modified version of his hold for years before i even knew about his and still use my modified version even though his is as good too.
If you can wade through the pornography and idiotic ramblings of his rat pack you might post this question on his "ask gary reeder" section.  One in a great while he does come up with something worthwhile in the knowledge department if you wade through the runny muck that is on the site.
I have calibers in the Encore that most haven't shot and probably don't want to shoot and I have never had "finger pinch, smash, mash, whack," ever shooting offhand or from the bench of which I rarely do.

I grip mine the same way, I use the forearm on the Contenders and Encore pistols.
