Lee - Handloader Field Kit
« on: September 01, 2006, 07:41:18 PM »
Does anyone have one of these for sale or know where I can get one.
I'ts a hand reloading kit made for loading on your hunting trips if you run out of ammo.
It is slow but ok for hunting loads. I don't know if the still make them. Please let me know.

Yes steel shot is available as a reloading component. Heavi-shot is also available but it is pretty expensive. Most of the shotgun reloading component suppliers will carry the items. If you have a MEC press you need to buy the steel shot converter kit for your press.
Hunting and fishing are not matters of life or death. They are much more important than that.

I wouldn't use Ball Bearings. "Steel" shot is actually relatively soft, the bearings are much harder.

As far as the factory shot not being perfectly round, take a look at some HeviShot. It's not even near round, but it patterns quite well.

Ballistic Products sells Steel, Bismuth and HeviShot. (Link in Spinafish's post).

jr, contact lee precision and ask them. They are good folks to deal with and talk to. If you email, they generally respond to emails within a few days.

You have to wonder though, if hauling around the components isn't going to be more work than just having a few extra boxes of shells.    ??? ??? ???
Just another worthless opinion!!

If anyone is considering using a Lee shotshell kit, remember that these worked better with the paper hulls.  I kind of filed mine away, when I went plastic.  The crimping is just not firm enough.
