Model 657 .41 MAgnum question
« on: August 07, 2006, 05:16:45 AM »
I am trying to pick a .41 handgun and am very interested in a 657.  I would like to get a 8 3/8" barreled gun like my buddy's 29, but I do not see them on the Smith website.

1. Does S&W make one with 8 3/8" barrel?
2. Will the Performance Center make one as all I see on the website for those are shorter barrels also?
3. Will the PC do a gun like thoe ones they show on the web, but without the porting of the barrel?  I am not sure if they only do packaged options or can you picj and choose features?

Thanks.

Barry
Be honest with yourself.  Can you guarantee you would hit a paper plate at 250 yards...100 yards...50 yards?  Then you have no business replacing the plate with a live animal.

Hello
I agree with Bullsey's response. There is another option though, They did make a  Long Barrel model 57 revolver. It could be had in a factory Nickel finish as well. They are out there, and I see them occasionally on the auction sites. This 4" Barrel one is a Early 57 series, and I would never consider getting rid of it. This 4" barrel is the hardest to find in the model 57 series and I have heard the Longer 8=3/8" barrels like you speak of were more common. Good luck in your search, Hammerdown

I just found one in a shop in Connecticut about two months ago....$470.00. This is my first 8 3/8" S&W and it is a nice shooter...

Look around...they are out there and usually priced less than the 4&6" guns...

Have you held the current 7.5" model? I know it's an inch shorter than what you are looking for, but that's still a lot of barrel!

I have the current 7 1/2" version and like it a lot.  I almost bought a used 6" without the underlug at a gun show last weekend, but I finally decided I like my 7 1/2 better and really do not need two.
