custom 257 encore pro hunter
« on: September 08, 2006, 04:48:22 PM »
I was wondering if it would be safe to have an encore pro hunter barrel rechambered for the Lazzeroni 257 screemjet.  If this could be done safely who would you reccommend doing the work.  Already have a scope picked out for the project, and just wanted to hear what you think of this project.

If I were going to do this, I'd contact SSK Industries.

Of course with ultra high velocity comes decreased barrel life and high working pressures.  The pressures may be excessive for the Encore but SSK would know that.

Let us now if you find someone to make it for the encore.  If not I may just have to find someone to rebarrel my no.1 to this screamer.  Keep us posted!!!!!!

I beleive all he sells are 100 grain balistic tips in 257.  But their of a diffrent quality then most on the market they start out slightly undersized and are then plated with some spaceage lubricant and are garenteed near 100% weight retention.

If I heard right all those cute little winchester short mags we all love involved a little copyright infringment on some lazz cartridges and win now owes the man some money.

I can tell you now that SSK won't do it & neither will any other logical gunsmith.

Instead of typing the info again look at the WSM thread.

The screamjet is not a short mag and produces lower pressure then a lot of 300 win mag loads.

Thats why I posted this round produces much low pressure then wsm.

Let us know if any REPUTABLE gunsmith will chamber it, I don't think so.
1. The cartridge has a large cross sectional area like the short mags, look at WSM thread about this.
2. Along with diameter, it is long too, so overall area of chamber is even bigger than short mags.
3. Doesn't matter whether Lass. provides data which is conservative or not, some/many will load until
pressure signs show up, the same way some do when they load for their 30-06, they may be using a conservative manual but many will slowly increase the charges until pressure signs show up, & in this
case if you do that, the frame will be stretched. A gunsmith that has a brain will not chamber a round in a gun that can't handle 65,000psi with that cartridge.

IMO, just not a logical conversion.
