Any 260 Remington barrels?
« on: August 29, 2006, 09:49:47 PM »
Am going to cll NEF, but has anyone see factory 260 Remington barrels? The used Hndi I picked up is a 30-06 and I would like to have a small caliber for blacktail deer. A 260 would match another rifle I have.

The 260 Remington isn't offered by NEF/H&R as a factory barrel. Though many would love to see it offered, as it's a very good cartridge. The 243 and 25-06 are about the only offerings close to it. With the 243 being offered in many different configs. from 22" standard contour and 20" superlight barrels to 24" Fluted Bull barrels. Also they are one of the only manufactures out there to offer the 25-06 in a 26" barrel.
If your really set on a 260 it could be done, but would cost more for a rechamber and such.

I think I had seen other threads about desire for 260 Rem, but nothing from NEF. Was just trying to keep the number of calibers of rifle to something managable.
Am leaning towards the 243 vs 25-06 as a second barrel. Seems should have less recoil and would be a great intro rifle as my son because of hunting age.

Thanks for the input.

No problem. And I know what you mean trying to simplify things down a bit too.
Your right though, the 243 would be a great cartridge to introduce him to hunting. Some don't like it cause it's small and they think they are under gunned. Me and my father use a 243, and many deer have fell to it. Accurate, flat shooting, and a very good bullet selection too. Pick up a 243 and grab some cheap Federal Power Shocks or Fusions, mine love them both.
Good hunting to you and your boy.

I think it will qupt some time before NEF & H&R  start making 260's.
It's a new cartiage, took a long time for them to start 7.62 - 39.
So your guess is as good as anybodies.  You could start the boy out on 30-30.
Just my thoughts for the day! Marv.
