SIG or XD
« on: June 24, 2006, 12:07:26 PM »
:D Hey guys I am in the market again to get a new 45 ACP. I am looking at the Sig 220 and the XD. Which one of these guns do you find to be of better qualityand more accurate?? I will be carrying it sometimes when I'm not carrying my Para Carry. ( By the way that is a great gun and very, very accurate!!!) I am going to test a Sig but I can't rent a XD, does anyone have any comments for either one of these guns.

I have fired the XD Tatical. Nice gun, but still just a polymer service pistol. It in no way compares to a Sig 220. Sigs and XDs shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath!

I have a Sig 225 and I've had a 220 and a XD in 40cal. both good guns BUT the Sig is a better gun, just my two cents worth

Without a doubt the Sig 220.  :D

I have a couple XD's and they are good handguns. They're nothing fancy to look at but, they are reliable, accurate and they go bang when you pull the trigger. However, they are not Sigs. If I were going to buy a new 45 (Yes, I have been looking) and planned on using it for concealled carry some of the time. I would (and have) looked very seriously at the Sig 220 SAS Carry. It's not cheap, but it is a Sig.

personally i cant vote, cause i've never messed with a sig, but today i got to pick up the XD, and fell in love with it, it made me want one of these instead of the HK compact i want, but the XD for me is just perfect, i've never had a gun fit my hand so well, of course i want the 40 cal, but to each their own i guess, now, accuracy and all that may be a different story, i didnt mind the trigger either. but to each their own.
I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?"
Well, to tell the truth I shoot a Springfield XD so it doesnt really matter.

I've never shot a sig.  I've heard good things, but never bought one.  They're kinda salty for a pistol  that's not a high cap 45.  My XD 45 4" is a great pistol for the money.  I'd still like to try a sig out some time as well though.

I carried a 220 as a duty sidearm for years and loved it.  If you used the 7 round magazines or only loaded 7 in the 8 round magazines you never had a stoppage.  You would occasionally get a stoppage with 8 round magazines loaded with 8 rounds.  The accuracy was top shelf, very few tuned pistols would shoot with it.  It is easily maintained, and parts are readily available.  The only thing I ever replaced was all the springs were replaced every 5000 rounds as a preventative measure.  The only reason I switched was we switched to Glock Model 22s which are also and excellent handgun.  I have handled an XD but have not shot one so I can't comment on them.

I owned a 220 (and have have had numerous sigs, all 100% reliable and very accurate) for several years
loved it (then got the 1911 bug)

I also owned an XD tactical in 40 for a day
I liked it, liked the ergonomics better than the numerous Glocks I have owned
but, I ddn't love it..  it was a good pistol, but didn't "wow" me

I can buy used 220s from a local police supply shop for about $400 with night sights

my vote would be for a 220, a clean used one
mine had belonged to a cop who did actually shoot it quite a bit, I shot the crap out of it and sold it to a buddy
thousands and thousands of rounds, never a hiccup

Sigs rock :)
