Greatings All,
was wondering what powder would be good to reload .45 LC with.

Would like to have the powder be versatal enough to load up to hot load and load to mild shooting load, is that possible ? or should I be looking at 2 diff powders to do that ?

I am thinking I would like to use med to heavy bullets say 265gn on up to 300gn and maybe little heavyer. Will just have to see what shoots good.

Idealy would like to shoot for 300gn going around 900 to 1100 fps. I am thinking this may make a good hunting round for white tail out to about 75yrds, ??

I will be trying these loads for my SRH .454 7 1/2" toped with a EER Loupold 2X.

Hodgdon HS-6 may do what your looking for. I have loaded some mild loads with it and John Linebaugh has some pretty stiff loads listed on his site with that powder.

You might want to try Hodgdon's Titegroup. I have had good luck with it in cowboy loads and there are some pretty hot loads listed.

I personally use Unique for 200 gr bullets and W296 for Heavy.

I have the same gun. The only powder I have used so far is Lil-Gun for both the 454 and 45LC rounds. Well, I did try Universal without success. Very happy with Lil Gun. I rarely shoot 45s though it, but my wife shoots at an indoor range that won't allow the 454s. I joined her at that range yesterday and tried the 45s. I got 2.5" groups offhand at 75 feet. I don't recall the load, but it was with the D&J 300 gr. lead bullets. It is on the hot edge of the 45LC loads suitable for that gun.

RamShot powder Silhouett replaced Winchester's WAP. My brother loaded some 320g WLN for his 45 lc and was suprised that he was getting 1100 from his 5" Vaquero. In the contender it was up to 1250 and both showed no signs of pressure and were very accurate. I generally load Win Super Field for the lighter stuff and WAP in the heavier loads with 296/H110 for the big stuff.

Thanks for the great responce, I may start asking some of my shooting buddys if they use any of these powders and see if I can get enough to load 20 rounds or so of each to see what my particular gun likes.

Then when I find something that is working I can go out and get couple of Lbs of it.

I tried some CorBond 265gn .45 LC and was printing about 1" to 1.5" at 25 yds with that. Went out to 50yds and must have been flinching couse it opend up to about 4". The triger on my SRH seems to have creep in it along with what seems to be 4-5lb pull, I didnt have a scale to measure the pull but that what it seem like. That could be some of the problem also with the longer shots.

Can anyone recomend a good gunsmith who can do a decent triger job on a SRH ? No disrespect to any gunsmiths but I dont want someone who will just put in a new spring and call that a triger job, there is more that goes into it than that.

I really like the gun it is just that the triger is sort of Ka-Ka.
