Yugo M48 and A&B barrel
« on: November 02, 2006, 05:17:57 PM »
Does anyone know if a Yugo M48 Mauser, which is large ring receiver, will take the Adams and Bennett Series 3 barrels.  The writeup at Midway only mentions K98 Mauser.

The Yugo 48 and 48A action is termed a 'large ring' Mauser but is actually a bit shorter than the full sized 98 action you find in the K98/VZ24, etc.  The A & B barrel may not fit the shorter action of the 48/48A.  Maybe the gunnut can provide specifications about the differences.  HTH.  Mikey.

Mausers are a variant ridden lot!!  If I'm not mistaken and it is a rather old memory, the Yugpslav version is an intermediate action. The overall length is nearly the same but the front ring is longer.. I believe the barrel will work as the primary diameter of the shank is the same. It may require setting the shoulder back a bit bit it's been a long time.. I've an unmarked action in the shop now. It's been rebarreled to a 35 Whelan. It is just a tiny bit shorter than a M98. It has not thumb cut or clip guides for stripper clips.. Looks just like a MK X. I didn't do the work and haven't messed with it yet..I'm still trying to get the time to fix a M98 with an A&B barrel that was incorrectly installed. The bolt won't close.. likely the shank length was left too long, I just haven't worked on it yet.

Well, thanks for the reply.  I will get the dimensions before I buy.

If you want to see some of the most incredible home made custom Mausers, do a google search for a fellow by the handle of FMSniper. The site we all hung out at got shut down along with tons of tech information about building Mausers. There is a new site that FM and others hang out on, but it escapes me at the moment. He and others have built many customs using large ring AB barrels on Yugos.  I'll post back if I find the current site. It has more info than you can fathom on building Mauser.....not up to par as the old site but getting there. If I could just find that link.........

Looks to be Mausercentral.com.  Thanks for the good tip.  I looked through the gallery there and got a couple of good ideas.  There is a ton of good info on that site.
