the site has a new scout
« on: August 12, 2006, 03:45:27 PM »
sup guys , yeah i know its been 4 and 1/2 months but becoming a cav scout takes some time . i'm still not home yet i'm at airborne school right now.

i just wanted to stop by and let you all know i did well at knox , i got highest BRM for the troop just missed EIC and my drills where most impressed with my stalking ability*. all in all i had a lot of fun and did well.

i was talking to my first sgt before i left and he told me that the first stg of the unit i'm going to is a friend of his and he would put in a good word for me and try to get me sent to sniper school, we'll see . i guess all those loong hours slaving over a reloading bench and out at the range with my handi's (and other's) did me a lot of good.

well i just wanted to check in and say hello

take care guys
curiosity killed the cat , but i was lead suspect for a while

Mitchell,

Good to hear your doing good. So, you going to snipe them with a handi if they let you?

i havn't got my orders yet so i'm still just sitting here at airborne school waiting , roomer has it that most all cav scouts are going to fort drum (upper NY) so if i get lucky i might have plunty of things to use a handi on when i get to my new home. but knowning uncle sam i could end up anywhere , so keep your fingers crossed everybody.

  Great show Mitchell..

   Thank you for your service..

Read my postings under NEF.."which to use"..you may find it interesting...

Consider; ...being a sniper is more than being a great shot..it is also a state of mind and a test of your spiritual reference. My Grandson, knowing before his deployment that he was to be a designated sniper, had a long talk with me, his Dad, our Pastor ...and a longer talk with his Lord.. Then, being resolved, he set his face toward battle..

   ..May God richly bless you...

Hope you heal completely.  Good chance you'll get another shot at airborne school in the future.  My son went through in April and is now in the 82nd at Bragg.  Matter of fact, he jumps again tonight - time on target is 2300hrs.  He really doesn't like night jumps.  And, being in a weapons squad, he has to help support the 240B gunner.  So in addition to his own equipment and M4 he jumps with a tripod or extra barrel strapped to his ruck.

Good luck.  Keep your head down.

Mitchell, Airsporter;

Are they still training airborne (paratroops) in great numbers ?
My grandson, although Spec ops, doesn't jump..but he does a "whole bunmch" of rappelling down from choppers.
I presume that a lot has to do with their mission or TO & E unit..and how they are set up to complete their mission..

mitch',

rarelly cross your fingers!   fold them in prayer, instead!   ask that He implements His Perfect Plan for your life.   then, step back a Little bit, doing your reasonable best -- and a sometimes a little more -- at whatever task you have in front of you.   in time His plan will unfold.   but.....no matter what happens.....as hard as it is......thank Him and praise Him for what He brings and for what He allows; because, "all things work together for the good of those who love Him", as it says in Romans, i believe.

these are some very tough times, and all of us are being challenged/tested in one way or another.    but you'll see that His Mercy and Guidance are ultimately arranged to achieve your greatest good.

the best to ya',

ironglow,

Airborne school, being a prerequisite for airborne, special forces, ranger, etc., is always jambed.  Many who have orders still end up in 'airborne hold' for weeks awaiting an actual slot. While most attending are 'high-speed' guys, some are 'pogs' and/or officers just looking for promotion points and will never jump again.  Additionally, Benning's airborne school is also used by all the other services.

When my son went through, he thought the airborne barracks were great compared to OSUT(basic+ait).  But, during the training, he found out the Air Force guys were getting extra pay for 'substandard living conditions!'  Go figure.

BTW, roping out of helos is 'air assault' vs. static line jumps or 'airborne.'  Two different schools.  The high-speed guys have both plus a lot more.

  Airspport;
Don't know just what you mean by "high speed" guys..

As far as unit ability and proficency, my grandson's unit (22nd MEU Spec Ops) is just about as elite as one can get..

While in Iraq 2005/2006..they didn't worry about barracks..they rarely saw them !
They did a lot of rooting out of terrorists, esp those infiltrating along the Euphrates river from Syria. They discovered and disposed of many munitions caches and cleaning out nests of terrorists was an everyday job.

His unit hunted down and captured # 13 in the "deck of cards"...then blew up his house with 47# of plastic . getting #13 was their cup of tea..being as that is one of the things they trained strenuously for .."snatch & grab" operations.
Training for those operations at Camp Lejeune..they did not utilize other Marines...but called upon Ft Bragg for Special Forces and Rangers ( or Navy Seals) to compete with...those old NCO trainers are cool & clever..they gave the "warlord" to the Army and sent them into the mock village. They told them, " You guys have the "warlord"..our Marines want him..don't let them have him. The only thing we don't allow is knives, guns or killing blows (since both forces are martial arts trained).
Well, the Marines got their man..but it wasn't easy !

I give the Army credit there..their Spec Ops are fully as good as the Marine Spec Ops..and that's good news for all Americans..LOL

Spec Ops are multi taskers, so besides being in the .50 cal ring in a humvee and kicking in doors, he was his unit's armorer plus their designated sniper.

While there in Al Anbar prov., he had 2 or 3 one-on-ones with enemy snipers...
Of course, in that case..only one sniper walks away..

He has landed by launch, hovercraft, high speed inflated boats and helicopters..but I never heard him mention jumping..

Here's a PM article on the Marine Spec Ops units like his:

   www.armedforcesjournal.com/2005/12/1222996

   www.military.com/Content/MoreContent1?file=AS_specops-mar

  www.military.com/Content/MoreContent1?=SF-mar-closing-ranks

..Still wondering what you mean by "high speed guys" as compared to Marine Spec Ops...esp since my grandson and his unit have already been tested in the hostile cities, villages and hot sands of Iraq..
