An observation on people that hunt with dogs. Seems like everyone gets into dogs so they can kill more game. Some say they just want to make sure they recover more game, bird hunters. But in the end most become dogmen at some point and if they lost their dog, they'd pretty much quit hunting. The dog becomes the focus, not the game.
I used to run bird dogs a lot with nothing more than a blank gun, even durning open season! I have a friend with hounds that goes out just to see how many coons he can tree, he walks away from the tree letting the coon live. I knew a guy in Bend, Ore that loved hounds and bobcats. A car wreak left him paralized from the waist down. After about a year feeling sorry for himself, he designed a 4 wheeler he could follow his hounds on, he doesn't kill cats anymore.
What is it about a dog? I've no idea!
