IAI???
« on: September 12, 2006, 04:32:29 AM »
I was at a friends house a couple of days ago and he showed me an IAI M6000 1911 clone.
He said that he didn't shoot it much and wanted to sell it. After talking to him about it and going out to shoot it some I was able to get it for $150. I have a couple of questions about this gun and I'm hoping you guys can help.

1) Does anyone have any experiance with IAI, such as how they shoot, are they reliable, and if I paid too much.

2) Does anyone know how aftermarket parts such as those from Wilson Combat, Ed Brown, Les Baer, or any of the many others fit.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Chris

IAI is another incarnation of AMT.  I like my 7" Longslide and shoot it a bunch.  If you do a search on AMT, there will basically be a "if it shoots, you got a good one" result.  Mixed feelings on this maker.  I was negotiating on a IAI Javelina, but never got to an acceptable price and walked away at $435 several years ago.

$150 is a great deal on a shootable 1911.  Congratulations on your buy.

All parts should be interchangable.  As always, depending on the gun, some fitting may be required.

I don't know anything about them, but if it shoots reliably and is reasonably accurate, then it's well worth the $150 even if the parts don't interchange with standard 1911 parts.

Thanks for your help guys. I bought the gun and took it out to the range. I have to say I was quite impressed with how it shot. In the past couple of weeks I have put about 500 rounds throught it without one single stoppage or jam. Accuracy was better than I expected with it averaging 2 inch 5 shot groups at 35 feet  while shooting freehand and 5 inch 5 shot groups at 25 yards off the bench. I have also found out that it is comptible with most 1911 aftermarket parts although it may take a little more fitting than on one of the more expensive models (ie. colt, springfield or kimber.)
