Drill and Tap a NEf/H&R .410 shotgun?
« on: August 13, 2006, 04:00:11 AM »
Can it be done safely?  Wouldn't mind putting a little red dot sight on a Tamer and getting a .22lr insert for it. ;D  Maybe for slugs too. 8)

simple and safe for any competent gunsmith or even a hobbyist with a drillpress and a little skill. The chamber area on the .410 shotguns has plenty of thickness to safely D&T. Perhaps for more indepth info you might try the gunsmithing section, good luck....<><.... :)

No problems drilling and tapping a 410. In fact the factory will even do it even do it for under $50 including the scope base and hammer extension.

Do you know if that's the only with .410s?

That's correct, the factory will only drill and tap 410 smooth bore bbls. They sell the 20 and 12 ga Ultra slug bbls with scope bases but that's a different story.

I just thought I would throw this in. I plan on getting one, if not both of my 12ga barrels done. One is a 27" Mod Choke and the other a 24' Full Choke barrel. And this is the smith that I will get to do it. He's very fair and does a great job:

While its NOT a 410, it is a shotgun and its been fitted with peep sites and a front blade.

I used a Contender fornt site and a Williams rear. I measured to get proper regulation for the front height. I also chopped the barrel to 19". its shoots quite well really. With 2 3/4" Rem Sluggers, it will keep three on a base ball at 50 yrds.

I used it sucessfully on a couple porkers some years back....

I know I'm just a dumb ole country boy... but why on earth would you want to put a red dot or a scope on a .410 ????
