groundhogs and tablefair?

i have a question about eating groundhogs shot in the summer months, i heard from an ol timer that people should never eat chucks shot in the summer because they are prone to getting worms and other such parasites ,wich if eaten the hunter may become sick from. so my question is do i have to waste all that meat and unload my freezer or can i pull out the grill.

P.S good chuck recipe anyone?

They feed on the same kind of food that rabbit do so whats the difference. I think the main thing like all wild game it needs to be cooked  until its well done, I have eaten whistle pig in the high country of colo. and it was good. Also had some bbqed and it was good. People have a tendency to roll their nose up when you say something like whistle pig, Not me i like it............Joe...............

It is like oso45-70 said, they can be very good eating.
Watch for the young ones next year as they dont have muscles hardened by digging.

Man, Who in the world don't like fried rabbit, back him up with some real mashed taters(not the kind in a box) with some real gravy(not the kind out of a can). I have an elderly lady who lives close to me who fixes my rabbits for me all winter. When you sit down to her table nothing is store bought ALL HOMEMADE. It makes me hungry just thinking about it. COME ON HUNTIN SEASON.
