Who's got a model 100, and loves it.  Tell us about your  memorable hunts with it.  I have one but haven't hunted with it yet. :lol:  :-D

I shot a buck once with my Great uncles 284 M100.  Nice gun.  Just walked into the woods late in the season one afternoon, Sat down against a tree and a buck ran by.  Stopped to look at me so I shot him in the neck.  Dropped on the spot.  We were cutting up deer at my house.  I was only gone like 20 minutes and back with a 7 point buck.  There was a recall on these rifles if you haven't had it done yet.  Something to do with the firing I believe.

I have a 100 in 308 and I love it. It's taken two deer for me and I've found it easy to carry and handle. I have a low power Weaver scope on it. All around great rifle.

I'm gearing up for turkey now.
Where in Ontario are you? I'm actually from Burlington, Toronto is more recognizable for our U.S. friends.

I have not shot the gun very much.  Used it to shoot that one buck before I bought my own rifle.  Part of my great uncles collection.  He bought it when the gun first came out I think.  If he had it, I'm convinced it was the best of the best for his needs.  Wears a tip off Leopold Scope.  
I did have the M100 double fire once while sighting it in.  Sort of neat, but not a surprise I was hoping for.  I think the recall addressed that problem.  I plan on shooting the gun again some this summer as time allows.

Worked with a guy who loved his in 308.  Shot quite a few deer  and a few moose too with it.  Dumped a charging brown bear too - at his feet.  Wasn't a big bear  but he was glad he had a fast gun that he knew well.

I had the recall done as my Uncle passed away 13 years ago.  It had something to do with the firing pin I think.  I did know, but have forgotten.  Was done for free by Winchester.  I was sighting in the rifle for deer season when it double fired.  I assume that it was taken care of since it never happened again.  But like I said, I haven't shot it much in the past 8 years.

Ol Tom, thanks, and let me tell everyone how i got this 100.  My friends are gundealers, and I was at a show with them. They kept telling me if I was looking at anything, all I was doing was looking not buying, just selling.  To make a long story short a guy walked buy our table with this perfect 100 .308 with a Weaver 2.5 and Pivot mounts,and two magazines! This gun he said only had a box of ammo threw it and it was his father's.  He wanted 500, I said "375" then we agreed on 400, because he just walked in 5 min. ago.  I'm very happy to have 99.9% gun that was made in 1961!  :D

Ol Tom, I do have an 88 308 that was my fathers.  It's very accurate and in great shape.  It's my favorite, and when I hunt with it I feel alittle of him hunting with me :-)

:lol: Bear Wallow I have a 100 in308 that was bought in 1963 buy my dad it was his companion until he could no longer hunt he gave it to me .witch it has never miss a season of hunting.the extractor broke and my brother told me to take another gun. I told him all I need is one shot. That morning when I shot he come by and said were the deer.It was where it was standing. We have kill 100, of deer over the year with it. I may retire it this year. I bought Rem 600-308. :roll:

You can find an extractor at Bolsa Gunsmithing.  Don't retire the gun use it, and enjoy! :D
