have you used a scope ring alignment and lapping kit when you put a new scope on your gun?

They're a good way to make sure everything is lined up, and the rough casting edges on the rings are sanded away.
Properly setting up your scope will keep from dimpling/damaging your scopes tube, and also keep from getting those nasty marred tubes when you remove the scope later.

1" tubing or a dowel wrapped in fine paper is a good way for the economy minded.

do you think i need to do that with my simmons 3-9x40mm on my airgun? i just put the scope on and zero it.

I've had more trouble with springer air rifles than anything else. I use a lapping rod & paste I got from Brownells to align the rings & then lap to remove the high spots. I've even had to wrap the scope w/ tape to keep it from moving.
Since you have it mounted I would probably shoot it & see if the zero moves. A small pencil mark on the scope will let you see any obvious movement.

I lap rings everytime.
I enjoy buying scopes cheep because they have ring marks.
If you do not want to invest in a lapping bar use Burris Signature rings
