Rear peep sight
« on: September 09, 2006, 11:48:37 AM »
Hello all,
I have ordered a Wichester Apex 45 cal. from Cabela's and am awaiting delivery. When I ordered it I was under the impression it WAS a Winchester! For $180 plus shipping I thought I could not pass it up. This will be my third ML. I have an old Italian made Hawken and a TC Scout. I never was able to get that Scout to shoot very accurate and have not used it in several years. The Hawken was very accurate, unfortunately my Brother-in-Law felt that since it was a "cheap import" it was not too important to clean it promptly when he borrowed it. The barrel bore is now pitted and I have not shot it since he returned it.
I am considering putting a rear peep sight on this Apex and was wondering if anyone might be able to give me any advice on this such as whether it is advisable to do this and if so, what kind would work best, and what kind would work best with the least amount of prep work.
I plan on using Powerbelts with Pyrodex (loose or pellets as I have both) and Winchester Triple 7 209 primers. Any suggestions on bullet sizes in Powerbelts or other bullet brands/types for that matter would be appreciated. Here in Delaware most shots at deer would be less than 100 yards.
I have read alot of naysayers on other websites (and a few here) regarding this Apex rifle but am somewhat relieved to see quite a few here take exception to these negative opinions. Anyway any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Jim

You could get a Williams Gunsight rear peep....the apertures are interchangeable, and there is a variable one available.  I just picked up a T/C Omega X7, which comes equipped with one.  Haven't shot it yet, but it shoulders wonderfully and the sights align well.

MidwayUSA carried them.
