Getting Close To.....
« on: March 15, 2004, 02:08:39 PM »
How is the weather doing around where you are?  Here it is 80+ everyday and the water is warming up FAST.  Checking out the farm ponds and such I have noticed that the bass are gathering just off the shallows.  Even in the larger bodies of water the temperatures are getting up there.  If this keeps up we are going to have a great spawn this year.  How about your areas?  Lawdog

Its starting to warm up in west Texas.  We had a few days last week about 70 + degrees.  The water temp. in most lakes is still a little on the cold side for this area.  Last week-end it was running about 40-45 degrees at Hubbard Creek, a nice lake about 50 miles northeast of Abilene, Tx.  Bass fishing has ben fairly slow, did manage to catch a few, had three good tournament fish about 2 1/2-3 pounds.  The crappie fishermen are doing great.  One friend caught his limit both Sat and Sun.  He had several fish that went over three pounds, but most were smaller.  They eat good.

If we don't get some rain to replenish the lakes we may not be able to fish next year.  It's been five years since we've had a good rain with run-off.  Guess we will have to start dusting the bass when we put 'em back to keep the ticks and fleas off..............thats dry.

More SNOW today and More SNOW tomorrow!!!!!!!   I'm tired of snow!!  Its only storm #5 we've been lucky so far the jeep has plowed 4 other times.  There were fisherman here fishing in my spot but there is no fish there yet.  I used the portable fish finder there lastyear everyday and watched when the fish moved into the area there since the cover is dead yet there is no fish until we seen the green of course.  I don't bother then when their on the beds.  So I have some weeks of trout and crappie fishing ahead of me here.                                      BigBill

It just gives me more time to GO RED!!!!!  Still ordering more cajun line and hooks and changing line, changing hooks from my first order.  I hope using the red color stuff it will trigger the big bass and maybe i'll land the bass of a lifetime I hope a new state record!!!! It only has to beat 12lbs 14ozs.

Its warming here, but the water is still about 50 degrees.  It will take another couple of weeks of warm weather to hit 60.  The weather has been pretty irratic too.  Rain, sun, rain, storm, sun, sun, sun, storm, rain, and they are calling for flurries tonight I believe.

Had to work on the lawn a little this afternoon to keep mama off my butt, but was thinking about fishing.  It was sure nice, mid-sixties and a little front blew in about dark.  Would have been a great time to be on the lake.

I was watching the news as mama was getting supper ready, the weather man said we can expect 81 degrees Thursday, then cool off to mid-seventys Friday with possible thunderstorms.  At this rate the lakes will be up to 60-70 in no time flat.

I'm going to try a little salt water fishing the first week in April.  I've already made arrangments for three days out of Port Aransas Tx.  I kinda screwed up, should have looked at whats in season and waited until the end of April.  Guess ya gotta take what you can get tho............

Wednesday the temperature high was 91.  Thursday it was 90.  Today it is supposed to be 90 again.  Tomorrow it is supposed to be 91.  Winds calm and only a few white clouds in the clear blue sky.  Lawn needs to be mowed almost twice a week now.  Bass are starting to bust top water plugs and buzzbaits.  Getting to be fishing weather soon.  Lawdog

What a beautiful day in West Texas today.  It was long sleeved shirt time at 6Am when we launched the boat.  Very little wind and mild until around noon.  Of course I was ready to head for the castle by then.  By two-thirty when I rolled into my drive it was 84 degrees.  The lakes are warming much faster than I thought they would.  We fished a small lake about a hundred miles north of Abilene today.  Had a fair day of catchin' em too.  They are shallow, getting ready to spawn.  Between the two of us we caught 18-20 fish with the biggest being just a tad over 3 pounds.  It was fun to get out anyway, and I still managed to get in my nap this afternoon before mama broke the "job jar" out and put me to work. :D

I went to the Tennessee river a couple of days ago, beautiful day til the T'storms crashed the party. Water temps were 58-62 degrees and there was mild action on spinnerbaits and watermelon texas rigged lizards. I didn't catch any though. I was glad to get out and test my new Garmin fish finder and make sure a new water pump I installed was operating correctly. I am now ready for the warmer weather! 8)
