Less recoil---what caliber?
« on: September 13, 2006, 03:57:34 AM »
Greetings,

I have a NIB 45-70 that I received as a replacement for one that had a slightly misaligned chamber.  I shot the old one a lot and thought I was OK with the recoil.  Then we returned that one and during the interim I shot my 40-65 a LOT and found I no longer want to put up with the recoil of the 45-70.  I have a lot of very good 45-70 brass and am wondering if there are any BP cartridges other than the 40-65 that are based on the 45-70 that would also have less recoil than even the 40-65?  My thought is to have this rifle rebarreled and then resizing the 45-70 brass to the new caliber (if there is one).  Short Stake has already helped start my learning about this.
Never said I didn''t know how to use one.

I really like the feel of the 38/50 Hepburn caliber .The recoil feels good and it is very accurate .Arnie

Thanks for the tips Arnie19.  I'll check into both of your suggestions.
