Just finished reading "FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS", which centers around the Iwo Jima flag raisers in the famous picture. I have come away STUNNED after reading this book. I had no clue about how bad this battle was nor about what happened with these fellows. I highly suggest to anyone who likes military history to get this book......you can't put it down!
Better yet, the movie is coming out next week, directly adapted from the book and directed by Clint Eastwood. The movie will be on par with the Band of Brothers series and Saving Private Ryan. And......the Japanese version (!!!) that tells their side of the battle is coming out soon, with English subtitles.
