Thompson scopes ?
« on: October 06, 2006, 08:16:46 PM »
I have been reading the boards about pistol scopes. See lots of information about Leupold, Burris, Bushnell and Nikon, but little to nothing about Thompson Center scopes. Is this indicitive of quality?

Thanks
Eric

Thompson is the only scope i have ever owned that failed. This was many years ago. The cross hairs dropped to the bottom of the scope. I believe it was on a 357 mag. Sent it back to Thompson and they sent me a new one.

I've got a Thompson 3-9x40 that I have mounted on my Mini-14 for a Coyote rifle.  The scope outshoots the rifle, for sure.  I bought that scope as it was advertized as 'Recoil Proof' and marked so on the box.

It's a good scope - paid the same as I have for Bushnell scopes, of which I have a bunch.  I have not had any problems with mine and she has held her zero and hasn't gone south on me.  HTH.  Mikey.

I have a T/C variable scope on a 357 Herrett that has given me no problems.

The Bushnell Trophy scope I had on a 460 S&W was trash in short order but the Leupold I then put on it seems to be holding up.

I put one the rifle models on a .50 cal muzzleloader, used 100g of powder and 300g sabots, lots of shots, never come apart, never lost zero. My friend also has the same set up though he uses 360g sabots, still never a lick of trouble.
Sold mine and went back to peep sights. Another friend, who bought it, uses it on his .50cal and still no problems.
These are the 1.5-5X32mm, with the load producing around 30-40 ft. lbs. of recoil.
Not bad in my book, good light transmission till 30min. after sunset.

I put a TC 2X7 on my 454 to see if they really are recoil proof.
The eye relief is not as friendly as some of the higher priced scopes but they are tuff!
Nobody stands behind their product better than TC some as good but none better
