encore slug barrel scope mount
« on: September 19, 2006, 09:22:35 PM »
Hello gents!

New guy here, I've been "lurking" for many months and getting a ton of valuable info, but this is my first post.  I hope someone can give me a hand here.  I just received an Encore 24" blued rifled slug barrel from one of our major mail order houses up here in the frozen waste of Canada.  I was planning to use it this year for deer (I'm in a shotgun-only zone) but much to my dismay I see that the scope mount holes are totally different than my other barrels.  The spacing between the 2 pairs of holes is much greater, and the location of the entire array of holes is much farther forward.  There's no way that the Weaver bases I use on most of my other barrels are gonna fit this thing, and even if they did, the scope would be so far forward that I think that I'd need something along the lines of a scout-type scope (which I don't care for).

Is there some kind of cantilever-type mount for these barrels?  S.I.R. (the mail order outfit) doesn't know what to do.  I'm stuck.
Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

John

Thanks for the offer, I think I'm good to go.  I found an unidentified Weaver-style base in my magical box of mystery goodies (known to my wife as "that box of crap") that had two holes that matched the barrel.  I reversed it so that the overhang stuck out to the rear, marked and drilled one more hole in the correct location, screwed it down, and voila!
Looks as good as a custom rifle....well...

Anyways, thanks

John

"that box of crap")

Please let your wife know that the proper name for that box is stuff.  All men have stuff.  Some put it in a box.  Some have hole rooms full of stuff!

Just tell her that the way to a man's heart is with stuff.  ;)

I considered explaining that little pearl of wisdom to her on several occasions, but the opening of the topic always became a painful experience that I regretted.

To her, a man's stuff simply takes up space that could be better occupied by....oh, say....women's shoes!

And anyway, she already knows that the way to a man's heart is....directly through the ribs from the front of the chest!

No turer words have been spoken.  Always remember it is very wise to listen to "The one who must be obeyed!"

That is if you want to get more "STUFF".     ;)
