Up date on El Tigre

El Tigre is a homemade lube recipe (a rather complicated one) using soy based wax instead of beeswax.  It is intended for use in a lube/sizer and perfectly matches teh orange color Lyman used to paint their units with.  It is medium hard when undisturbed, but soft when worked.  It is fairly heat resistant, but almost flash melts in a microwave oven -- gets hot quick in there.  It smells good.  Its clean to handle.  It allows one to shoot many rounds without hard fouling in the guns; at least it does with the PRS bullet.  It seems to sort of clean the guns as you shoot them; honest.  I don't know how it stacks up in fine accuracy, yet.  Its got Potential.

One minor problem is bugging me at this point.  One of the ingredients, which was marketed as an oil, may have actually had a rather high moisture content.  The moisture causes stratification of the lube as it cools.  If chilled in a tall cylinder shaped container, the bottom 25% is visually different than the top.  Both layers seen to shoot the same (no accuracy testing, yet).  I may mill the entire batch and press the milled/mixed product through a honemade die to make hollow sticks.  I may figgure a way to reduce or eliminate the moisture (although it may be a good thing).  I may seperate them and use as two different products.  I may go nuts.

After some exsperimenting, I have decided to leave the El Tigre as is.  I dehydrated a small sample by slowly re-cooking it in a convestion over at 300 degrees F.  A good amount of steam was noted to excape the lube.  The resulting product was darker of color and did not stratify.  It shoots no different so far as I could tell, so why bother.  In future batches using the same ingredients, I may take care to dehydrate while initially processing to gain a more uniform product.  The only way to keep the moisture and have a consistent product would be to mill it and compress form hollow sticks.

Brasskisser;

Seems unfair to let the cat stick its tail out of the bag and then shutt'n 'er back up in there; don't it.  El Tigre is the name of my variation of PRS lube using soy based "Pillar Blend Ecowax" sold by GloryBee Foods, Inc.  But, the wax aside; there is another big difference that is more outstanding.  I have only shot this lube on a dozen or so occasions, but I am impressed.  Its fairly hard at rest, but softens up pronto under pressure or if "worked" -- but returns to its firm state quickly.  Fairly heat resistant.  It coats the barrel when shooting.  Hard shot firearms are still easy to clean several days after having been "neglected", no signs of rust to my inspection.  Cleans up with soapy water or just plain hot water.  It smells good, it feels good on yer hands.  Believe it not, on moist days like yesterday it even makes the SMOKE smell GOOD!  I like it.  I plan on making it with beeswax to; need a round tuit to get er done.  My lubes are formulated for rapid fire endurance and may or may not perform as well in long range accuracy -- I don't know as I don't do that yet.  I will e-mail ya.  I have pictures of PRS lubed boolits that I could post; but frankly I have no clue as to how to do that -- they are stored on my confuser in Kodak's  program.  The beeswax varient is already on paper and titled "Volunteer" (my Alma Mater is UT Knoxville) -- guess what color these lubes are?  Yep; I done went nuts! :-D  :-D  :-D
