WE HAVE NOT DONE THIS IN A WHILE OR IS IT AWHILE
« on: October 26, 2006, 11:59:30 PM »
Let's see if we can break this into catagories, too keep it simple---and on topic---well, that won't happen :'( :-* ::).
Manufacturer only---what maunufacturer do you prefer?
If cost is of no consideration--what maufacturer?
If cost is of no consideration--what platform (single action, DAO, etc.)?
Comander, combat or long slide?
Full house custom, manufactured semi custom (limited custom), limited production, BBQ?
It is a slow day and it's raining--I probably forgot my meds  ;D :o :P.

Assuming only 45s for my bullseye target shooting hobby:

Manufacturer only---what maunufacturer do you prefer?
Rock River Arms

If cost is of no consideration--what maufacturer?
Rock River Arms

If cost is of no consideration--what platform (single action, DAO, etc.)?
Single Action

Comander, combat or long slide?
Normal 1911A1 configuration.

Full house custom, manufactured semi custom (limited custom), limited production, BBQ?
Pardini makes a suitable production gun that's accurate enough for bullseye shooting. All others really need to be custom wad guns.

There was a discussion of BBQ guns way back when, if you wish to look for it. It was a fun discussion.
A BBQ gun is a TEXAS, by GOD term. there are actually two guns in question the BBQ gun and a court gun.
The BBQ gun is for, BBQ's of course. Fancied up guns, normally Colts in S/A but as time carried on Colts in Semi-auto were allowed in the gates.
Normally it was a highly engraved piece, inlaid with silver or gold, tastfully gawdy, with ivory handles--no pearl here, that was for whores and gamblers--leather was typically spanish work with a lot of Spaish influence.
A 1911 Colt was the same.
These weapon were not as few as one might imagine and I have seen a number in my day.
The court gun was for occasions of town visits to the lawyer or the court.
These weapons were eually engrave but not as gawdy and maybe not inlaid,Ivory handles though. The leather was also not as gawdy but conservative.
These were not working guns, well except for the court guns, examples of which were commonly found on the hips of county boys, Rangers and such.

Thanks for the BBQ gun note. I've never thought of dressing up a gun for other people to be impressed by. I'd want mine to be a 1911 or, dare I contemplate it, a Freedom Arms presentation .45LC (their smaller framed revolver) with a 5-ish inch barrel in a really well made, but relatively plain oxblood leather holster with matching belt. Oh, but that would be too simple. The gun woulld really need to be a full custom of some kind.  Checkered non-double-diamond ivory stocks and deep bluing on a 1911.

I kinda like this Barbecue gun thing. It kinda helps offset my opinion that Texans are misguided because they don't recognize pork and chicken as the king and queen of the barbecue meats, and that they don't realize that chili ALWAYS has beans in it. Poor souls.  But it looks like they have some fine ideas about what the social aspects of a barbecue should be, so maybe I ought to shut up, get myself invited to a real Texas Barbecue, and then form an opinion based on first-hand knowledge of how they make them work as well as they say they do.

Pork??? Chicken??? I will pray for you folks. Brisket is the king. BTW, Chili has no beans or tomato in it. ;D ;) :P :-*I do like pork ribs, however.
The gun thing is a fun little diversion and I enjoy looking at them, the custom boys still do a little of this work though the engraving and inlaying's are not as plentiful.
Them guns was for "showing off".

Barbecued beef brisket? Arrgh! I think I'll go vomit now, and then pray for the Texans. No tomatoes in chili? Barbarians!

Can't afford custom 1911s

So settled for a P1245 for my first, then a SA Loaded, a Colt Delta, then a Colt Gold Cup Trophy, Colt Lou Horton Delta ( wash out my mouth, I have a Colt Double Eagle Officer in the safe somewhere, I like it too)
