Bell & Carlson thumbhole stock
« on: August 28, 2007, 06:27:01 AM »
Has anyone put one of these on your contender? If so what is your opinion, good fit or does it
require fitting, does the stock attach securely? I have a contender carbine (pre G-2) that has the factory rynite stock, which I really do not like poor design for scope and the buttstock is too thin. I want a full profile stock that is designed for scope use. I am left handed and the selection seems pretty limited for us southpaws especially for a thumb hole stock that can the used by both right handed ( my daughter) and me.

I just got one from Midway.  Fit the handle fine, except needed relieving at the hammer, would't fully cock.   No screws provided.  Forearm needed fully relieved, no problem used a 7/8 inch dowl and some coarse crocus cloth initially, finishing up with 800 grit sandpaper.  Color doesn't go through, so expect some "fiber glass" look.   Didn't make any difference in the forearm, full bed job with epoxy.   You can see where I relieved the hammer interference, albeit ya have to look.   Made it my Contender Hunter version, with 16 + inch bbls in 358x444, 30x307, 308x444, 45-70, and 30 Alaskan.

As sparky said, they require considerable fitting for supposedly being "drop-in".   I bought one for the Contender Carbine and a Carbelite Classic for a Remington 700ADL/78 Sportsman about 3 years ago, both in Nat Gear Camo.   I was very disappointed in them and never did mount either one of them.   Sold the TC stock set some time ago, and the Rem stock is in a box just collecting dust.   Not a fan of syn stocks myself anyway - but I won't ever buy B&C again.   FWIW.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus
