My Blackhawk 45 colt

I'll tell you right now that my 45 colt loaded with hunting loads is quite stout! It has one heck of a recoil too!. My hunting load is a 240 hornady XTP bring pushed by 22.5 gr. of Lilgun. Approx. 1350 fps. I'm glad I got the 7.5 " barrel. And I just put hogue grips on it too. The last time I was at the range, this older guy named George showed me how I should hold it. Since this is the first time I've owned a revolver, I really didn't know how to hold the darned thing. And I've had a couple of chunks of meat taken off my knuckle on my thumb.  Well, after he showed me how to hold it, I started zeroing it in. Got it squared away at 25 yds. I really love reloading for it and shooting it. I will use it this year in the REALLY thick stuff where a rifle would not be good! At one time I thought about a 44 mag., but this colt can do it all within it's limits. That's all I ask!

I shoot some pretty stout stuff outa mine also. Try some 300 gr stuff with a good charge of lilgun ,H110 or Win296. That'll take some more hide off! HAHAHA Try some lead stuff, 200gr or 250gr with Unique , clays , 231 or some of the other Pistol powders and you'll find this to be a very pleasureable gun to shoot. Velocities under 1000 fps are fun and less expensive to shoot. Ennjoy it!!

My Old Vaquero is not too bad with the PMC +P+.  The beauty of the 45 LC is that you can shoot everything from creampuff CAS loads up to the heavy hitters in the Rugers.  You may want to start with some lighter loads, and then gradually work up.  For hunting, it hasn't been an issue, since I don't notice recoil while shooting at critters.  I sure don't enjoy an afternoon of shooting pop cans with Garrett or Buffalo Bore loads, though!

With my Blackhawk 45 LC   7.5 barrel I have sighted in to 100 yds with 240 gr bullets going 1450 fps.

Might use it for deer this year. I have Hogue grips on it also.
 
I also have a Leupole 2X scope on it.

Wear a glove with the finger tips cut off.  It helps a lot.  Deer skin work gloves with the draw string wrist are the nicest.
