30-30 OAL

What OAL are you running for 125 grain nosler balistic tips for a 30-30 (14" contender)?  I ready that increasing the OAL will improve accuracy.  How much is a little?

Thanks.

The best thing to do is take a fired case, put a bullet you intend to use in the case. Place the case with bullet into the gun and close the action. Slowly open the gun and remove the case with the bullet and measure the OAL. That way you will know how far you have to seat your bullets when reloading. It will insure jump from the chamber to the rifling is at its minimum. You will have to play with it a little to see what works best in your gun. Good luck and hope this helped.  :D

CAUTION, Redhawk1's method works good and I use it myself, BUT be careful.  When you get that length, the bullet is touching the rifling.  Back off that length a few thousandths or reduce charge if you are anywhere near max.  Firing with the bullet touching the rifling WILL increase pressure.  Hope I didn't step on toes here, but there is a nasty picture on a nearby thread that none of us want to experience. THANKS, Walt

Hopalong7, you made a great point. I also back off a few thousandths and I do not use Max loads.  :D
