Semi Auto .22 in official NRA silhouette competitions
« on: October 31, 2006, 11:47:26 PM »
Hello everyone...

Can someone please tell me if semi auto .22 rifles are legal in official NRA silhouette matches and if so do they have any restrictions or where can I find a list of specs that a semi auto must adhere to if they are legal in an official match.

I use a bolt action myself but have been asked a few times if shooters can use semi autos.

hope you can help

all the best

Myself and others have shot a lot of NRA small bore silhouette matches with semi-auto rifles and no one has ever said anything about it.

I checked the rules and it says nothing about the kind of rifle action allowed. It only says you can't use a thumbhole stock or use a sling for support in hunter rifle and no slings or swivels are allowed in smallbore or high power rifle. BTW, I use a hopped up Marlin model 60 for hunter rifle and class A smallbore.

Yes, semi-auto rifles are most definitely allowed. They have to fit the rules shown in the rulebook just like other action types do. Didn't Troy win nationals with a custom 10/22 a few years ago?

Only thing semi auto specific if that a competitor is required to make sure his spent brass does not interfere with another competitor as it is ejected from the gun.  A brass deflector is recommended.
