Cannon accident investigation report

Thanks Norm for posting that, everyone should read this report, especially the recomendations.

I beleive we already have on report on this accidents posted in out cannon accidents posts, but I'm not sure we have this final report.  I'll check it and update the link.

I think I have looked at this accident from the GBO links section before. If I am not mistaken, pics in that link clearly showed that the cannon was "ornamental", the bore at the breech something like 2x that at the muzzle (and was filled partially with lead to enable firing ?). I think that the camp was way farther off-base than is obvious from this link. At any rate I think that EVERYONE that fires cannon can learn something from EVERY accident. This one is just plain stupid though. MIKE

Mike I believe that this is a different accident in that  "The cannon had been imported as a solid casting and then had been bored, and a touchhole added, by a subsequent owner in the United States."  The problem with the barrel was that it was not sleeved.  The other problems were the various improper procedures in its use.

I do to at times.  Reminds me of the story about Daniel Boone.  He was asked if he ever got lost.  He replied that he had never been lost, but that once he was very confused for three days.  :D
