picked up 6 wool blankets at estate sale

I picked up 6 army wool blankets from dated 1942 all in excellant shape no moth holes but were stored with moth balles so looking to clean wash the moth ball smell away are these dry clean only 100 percent wool so one told i could machine wash with woolite and line dry anybody know the blankets are clean but smell of mothballs. I thought i could put one in my b.o.b. the rest up north in cabin.maybe also keep in in car. thanks

I'd like to find a couple of good wool blankets. You might try just hanging them out on a clothesline and let the fresh air get the mothball smell out.

A wool blanket can be made into a good bedroll, by getting a tarp just a little bigger in size than the blanket and sewing one end of the blanket to one end of the tarp, then fold it over and roll it up and keep in your car trunk or behind the truck seat for when you need an emergency bedroll. To use, just fold it in half with the tarp on the outside and slide into the wool blanket to keep warm and dry.

that is a great idea sewing the tarp but why just one side ? like a canvas type tarp maybe treat it with scothguard to make the tarp real water proof. will try the air out method but the smell is strong. also nice website the mountain a lot of good info in their to

To sew it one one side is to just keep it lined up with the tarp when you roll it and when it's used to make a fold to sleep in. It can then be spread out at the side that is sewn together on a line to air.

I'd wash them just like you said and hang dry them. Airing them out will never get rid of that moth ball smell. Esp if they've been stored a long time.
