Bufalo hunt.

I have a bufalo hunt set up for later this oct. I will be using my  buff clasic. Any thoughts on bullet weight and loads. Right now I am thinking 405 gr bullet.  cold mold :)

That sounds like some fun!! I'd use big bullets if I were after buff, one of the bigger Cast Performance, 440gr or 460gr, or even the 525gr Beartooth Piledriver! ;) If you're interested in the Piledrivers, I can send you enough to work up a load and hunt with in time for your hunt, Beartooth is a little slow at shipping. Cabelas and Midway both carry the Cast Performance and are quick to ship.

Marv, it's good stuff, specially cooked over an open fire and sliced off as it gets done on the outside. Me and my shooting partner ate a 3lb roast cooked that way at a blackpowder rendezvous, took close to 2hrs to cook and eat it, but we had help with others wanting a taste!! ;D

I probably wouldn't either, but a local supermarket chain sells it every year in February, so I get to eat some at least once in a while when I want to spend the money, roasts were about $5-$6 a pound the last time I bought some, not cheap. There a bunch of online sources too.

Coldmold, my brother, and I have been fortunate that my brother in law in South Dakota has raised Buffalo at different times.  we have been able to obtain some great bufalo.  It is great eating.  The ground buffalo makes absolutely great chili.  It is low in fat and the chili is not at all greasy.  just made some buffalo jerky for our upcoming annual bro-bond with our other two brothers.  Will be on a houseboat next week on Bull sholas down in Arkansas. :D

Coldmold, sorry your thread got on the subject of eating buff, I think it would be nice if you got some load info like you asked so you can shoot one first..... and then worry about eating it!!  :D Come on fellas!! ;)

coldmold,

I am with Tim on this, 460 CP, 420 BTB, and 520 BTB would be my choices. The 460 is very accurate from my guide gun. The 420 is accurate from every gun I've tried it in. The 520 definately out punches the rest of them, but shoots about 6" lower at 100 yards from my guns. My loads are "downloads" from the max listed because I figure once you get something that heavy moving along, a 'lil old buffalo isn't going to stop it. My penetration tests support this wild idea.

Have a great hunt and post some pictures please. I think buffalo are great looking animals, and good eats too.
