I have killed fox squirrels here in West Tennesse that had the black head and a white nose. I have also killed a few grays that looked almost as red as the fox squirrels here. We also have a small town about 15 miles from here that has a population of white (gray) squirrels, they also claim to be the Home of the White Squirrels!
I have one on my wall that has a salt and pepper back, jet black mask and belly, and red tail. I had it mounted because it is such an unusual and pretty specimen. I took it out of my back yard pecan tree, in town, with a CCI short CB. No special hunting connection, just a beautiful specimen.
Kenton proudly calls itself "The Home of the White Squirrel." Various stories are told of how the unique squirrels first came to this small town, but whatever the reason, the squirrels have continued to thrive in Kenton.
Families of white squirrels live in most parts of the town. Special laws and fines protect the treasured animals and each year the city celebrates the special animals with the Kenton White Squirrel Homecoming in July.
I will just have to take your word that they all taste the same!
