I set the sides of the houses.I punch an indentation at the waterline, with my fist.I then set a stoploss in this indentation,I use up to 4 stoploss at a house--quick ,simple and effective.
Use a stake of substance--every mink, coon ,beaver and rat will investigate. You need a staking system that will hold all these animals.Biggest coon last year in this set up was 34 pounds,I have also held beaver up tp 53 pounds. These bonus catches pay the gas---no lathe allowed.

if your trappin a pond find the inlets and outlets where small channels are allowing water to flow in or out of the pond/lake, a little current usally runs through these so ice is thin and easy to break through or non existant making this a good late fall early winter set, now find runs going in or out of these and believe me you will find runs, rats use these in the cold weather because the water is usally warmer, set a 110 conibear in there, run a stake through the trap chain...and bam boom instant muskrat!
try this its my favorite pre ice set and i swear by it!
