Kenai Bear Hunt Report....I gotta stop drinkin'
« on: April 19, 2003, 12:59:50 PM »
:D Ok guys.  This ain't funny anymore.  Yes, I went lookin' for blackies again today on the Kenai.  Had a great day and saw hoops of bald eagles, many dall sheep, oh yeah, AND A FREAKIN' TURKEY  !!!  What is it?  Global warming?  I swear it was a brown (not white or mottled domestic looking) turkey.  Man, I sure hope it ran away from someone's yard....

Next weekend is the Whittier trip....hope them blackies wake up this week.

Matt,
Naw, that was just my buddy Greg trying out his new camo for next year's season in PA. :)  Really though, there are a few people that raise turkey all over the peninsula so am not suprised. Several years ago a friend and I were driving Skilak Rd. headed out on a fly fishing trip. We rounded a corner and found a Golden Pheasant gritting smack dab in the middle of the road. Another time (same buddy)we were hiking several miles north of Cptn. Cook park and ran into a Peacock as big as life struttin it's stuff on the trail! The strangest thing I ever saw out in the wild Alaskan "bush" though was a fellow packing his rifle while wearing a tuxedo! A mile down the road we ran across a lady dressed to the "nines" sitting on the hood of the car with a most disgusted look on her face. It was afterall, moose season! :)
Good luck in the "Sound" and let us have a play by play when you get back!
best,
bhtr
