The option I prefer is to not use the copper washed bullets. They deliver no value over cast bullets.

Most likely the plated bullets from Midway, you may try direct from the maker for 15,000.  Larry

I think the problem here is poor ventilation. If you're having "horrible" lead vapor, then you're not getting rid of it by switching to washed bullets unless you use lead-free primers. And you're not eliminating other harmful vapors unless you have good ventilation. I recommend that you stop shooting until you get the results of a lead test from your physician, and then decide whether you want to keep shooting at that range.

We had some guys start using the washed bullets in my bullseye league a couple of years ago when washed bullets became a brief fad. They have all switched back, saying that that it was a waste of money.

Hello, folks--nice forum you all have here.

I would agree that a properly functioning ventilation system is vital to an indoor range.
Even if you shoot lead-free bullets, you still have to deal with the significant amount of lead vapor released by the exploding primers.

QUESTOR LET ME ASK YOU A QUESTION DO YOU OWN A INDOOR GUN RANGE, I DO AND THE $50,000 I HAVE INVESTED IN MY VENTILATION SYSTEM IS BEYOND ADEQUATE. ALSO MY LEAD LEVELS ARE TESTED EVERY TIME THAT I GIVE BLOOD AND THERE FINE.  I SHOOT A LOT MORE THAN MOST PEOPLE DO. ALOT SO I WANT TO GET RID OF IT ( LEAD VAPOR) AS MUCH AS POSSIABLE. I SIMPLY ASKED FOR A PLACE TO BUY CHEAP BULLETS. THANK YOU TO THE PEOPLE OF PROPERLY RESPONDED. I APPRECIATE IT VERY VERY MUCH. QUESTOR I HAVE READ MULTIPLE RESPONSES THAT YOU POST AND HAVE YET TO SEE A POSTIVE POST OR ONE THAT ACTUALLY PERTAINS TO THE POST WHATS UP MAN, SOME ON MAKE YOU MAD AT THE WORLD.

Prebanpaul:

Sorry to ruffle your feathers. There have been some posts from people who tried to shoot firearms in their unventilated basements and out buildings. If you shoot that much, my recommendation is to contact a manufacturer and work out a wholesale deal that can arrange favorably priced transporation. Either that or find someone locally that will sell you large amounts of washed bullets. I do essentially that with my bullets and it works out very well. I go through a guy who makes them about 90 miles away and I pick up a two year supply when I know I'll be driving past his place.  That way, I get a big break in the price and I don't pay transportation. Another thing you might try is to try the PMC lead-free primers: http://www.pmcammo.com/primers.php which at target pistol velocities will do more to reduce lead in the air.

What kind of ventilation system do you have? That must be for a very large or specialized facility. The range I frequent has 12 25 yard bays and the ventilation system cost about one fifth of that and it's excellent, and complies with all the pollution statutes in a statute-happy state. It includes air conditioning and heating.

I dont know if they are the cheapest, but I.M.H.O Haendler & Natermann makes the best plated bullets on the market. They are distributed in U.S by  rocosystem.com.

I'm using the Berry's 185 gr. Double Struck HBRN bullets in .45 as the indoor range where I shoot most often allows only jacketed bullets.  These are $75.00/1000 delivered to my door from Graf & Sons.  They feel reliably and the double struck variety are quite accurate.  I do not particularly like shooting indoors, and I don't like having to pay for coated bullets, but that's were I live right now.
The HEPA filters on a modern indoor range system are very expensive to replace and lube smoke clogs them up much faster than jacketd loads.  I'm not certain that any real reduction in lead exposutre results simply from switching to jacketed bullets, but having the HEPA system with clean filters does reduce your exposure to the lead styphanate from the primers as the air handlers keep the air flow going downrange continuously.
