Herter's Brass

I just came across 60 rounds of unused Herters 243 brass still in the orginal boxes.
Can anyone tell me when Herters stoped making brass?
Should I go ahead a reload them Or just set them on the shelf?

Herters was cool, I just loved reading there catalogs.as for your brass.I would leave it in the box.you might find some one to pay good money for them as a collector.heck Herters may want them back.they are in to the water fowl hunting now that they have resumed bussiness since they went out many years back.

Agreed.  I would check with a couple of cartridge collecting boards to see what value they have before loading them.  They outsourced their brass. Perhaps the current Herters would have the archieves to tell you who exactly made them.

My understanding is that the Herter family does not own the current Herters, they've sold the right to the Herter name. As for the cases, I wouldn't shoot them. About ten years ago I came into a bunch of 25-06 Herter cases, they wouldn't take much pressure. I got rid of all of mine. If youd like some Herter bullets and primers to go with it tho, I've got 22, 24 and 25 cal bullets and about 10,000 large rifle primers and a few thousand small rifle primers. They work well and the Herter primers are my favorites!

Gosh, I haven’t seen a real Herter's catalog in I don’t know how many years.  I used to buy a lot of stuff from them.  It was mainly fishing stuff but I did get some 222 brass and their version of a Lee Classic loader and some powder once.  At one time you could get some really good stuff from them but unfortunately toward the last they put out a lot of junk.  Still the name brings back a lot of memories.
