scope mount base

Hi all,  just ordered my sidekick today and i was wondering, do the sidekicks and huntsmans use the same scope mount bases as the regular centerfire rifles? I would assume they do, but I have been known to assume too much in the past. Also, do all of you use sabot loads in your sidekick or have you had any luck with lead bullets like the buffalo bullet. I have used them in my tc hawken for years and they killed any deer I shot dead as a post and they dropped where they stood. Just wondering if they might be any good in the sidekick.

I would go to NEF Web site http://www.hr1871.com They sell the the base, with hammer extension for $18.00 and there service is great and fast.

I got my scope base and hammer extension at a local sporting goods retailer. They are made by weaver, and I beleive are the same units nef sells. I paid a little more but I got it the same day. after shipping I think I only paid about 4 bucks more than from nef. Worth it for me as I am sometimes too impatient for my own good

The Weaver #82 base isn't anything like the H&R bases, totally different other than the fact that weaver type rings work on it! It only has 2 mounting slots and the rear 1" isn't usable so the scope can't be mounted to the rear to help clear the hammer. See the NEF/H&R FAQ, there are pics for comparison down near the bottom of the page.

Wow, I hadn't noticed that. I stand corrected. They are quite different indeed. however, whith the hammer extension, I do not have any trouble with clearance issues. If I had it to do over, i would buy the nef base and extension, but the weaver #82 base is functionl, so I cannot justify myself changing now, to fix something that is not really broken.  Great info quickdtoo.  Thank you.

If you're the DIY type and handy with tools, you can cut additional cross slots in the Weaver base, in a pinch I've even cut the flat part off and drilled new holes in a couple of em, but I prefer the H&R base. ;)
