Copper Jackets vs. "Gliding Metal" Jackets?
« on: December 10, 2002, 04:47:35 AM »
I read somewhere the other day that Nosler Partitions (and/or Ballistic Tips) used "Gliding Metal" jackets as opposed to conventional copper jackets.  Up to that point, I had never known, or even heard of, "Gliding Metal." :?

Just today I reviewed a website which contained information on Trophy Bonded Bullets, and it stated that the TB also used "Gliding Metal."

Okay, am I missing something?  Does anybody know the difference between conventional copper jackets and "Gliding Metal?"  What are the advantages (if any)?

Wal now Zachary, conventional jackets are actually made of gilding metal and NOT copper. Copper jackets are rare and used only on a few of the newer premium bullets.

What I'm saying is that ALL of the Remington, Hornady, Speer, Sierra, Nosler and such bullets and most of them by everyone else use gilding metal and have for many years.

Barnes X bullets are all copper and Winchester Fail Safes are mostly copper. Some of the newer premiums are using a pure or near pure copper jacket and pure lead but the standard is and has been gilding metal.
