Question........Heavy recoiling BPC Rifles
« on: November 03, 2006, 07:26:20 PM »
Gents and Madams,

Have never been sensitive to recoil.  However in my advancing old age am finding that the heavy recoiling loads in .45-70 and .45-100 are affecting my lower right jaw.  Meaning the recoil slams hard enough to cause my teeth to hurt at times.  Am fully aware of "cheek weld" and "head placement" in relation to stock mounting while aligning with tang rear and globe front sights.

Anyone using a mouthpiece or athletic mouth guard  (ala boxing, football, etc.) while shooting large caliber BPC Rifles?

Thanks for your input.

Haven't done that, but using a neoprene butt stock shell holder with a little extra closed cell foam padding under it on top of the comb will ease that recoil to the face. ;)

quicktdoo,

No doubt extra padding on the comb will reduce jarring to the facial bones and teeth.  However, NRA BPCR Silhouette rules are rather rigid when it comes to comb height and any extra padding.  Mid range and long range (Creedmoor) BPCR rules are more lenient in this respect.

Trying to abide by the NRA BPCR Silhouette equipment rules does present a problem with recoil management with the larger capacity cases in .45 calibers.
