Military surplus bullets-ball ammo.

I know that as is these are not suitable for deer,but can a fella file a certain amount off or hollow point them and get acceptable results?I think I will dissect one today and check out the jacket thickness,etc.I will try to post any results.Thoughts anyone?I am shooting .30/06 ammo here,target practice and groundhoggin'.I do not fox hunt,but maybe they're okay for furbearers too? :?:

I've thought about doing that w/full metal jacketed rounds also.......... Wondered if they could be altered by slicing the jacket with a dremel tool cutter or as you said filing the tip and drilling a hollow-tip....Don't see why the fmj's wouldn't work for varmints anyway, but let us know how you make out.

Think about what you are asking....

Most, if not all, military FMJ bullets have an open base.

Now, if you file off, or drill off, or cut off the point of the bullet, what do you end up with?

A lead core inside a guilding metal cylinder...open at both ends....

Aw, don't waste your time doing that. Just get some 125 TNTs or somesuch and you'll be way happier.

I have tried loading the M80 bullet backwards, it hits hard but isn't terribly accurate past 50 yards though. I don't recommend it.
