buffalo bore / Grizzly ammo
« on: October 04, 2006, 12:18:42 PM »
Hello to all.  I've been lurking for a while, reading and taking in the info.  Now I have a question.  Has anyone used the Buffalo Bore 350 grn JFN, or the Grizzly 350 grn JFN in 45-70.  I have a encore 45-70 pistol, 15" stainless with an SSK brake on it.  I handload, but don't have the dies and stuff yet.  I just wanted to try something with a little horse power!  I've been shooting the factory Winchester 300 grn hp.

When I start loading I wanted to try the Barnes original, 300 grn SSP.  Has anyone used this bullet in a pistol lenth barrel?

Thanks in advance for any replies
Joe.

I've shot the Buffalo Bore but not the Grizzly. You're a tougher man than me if you can take that recoil from a handgun barrel. In a 13 pound rifle it was brutal.

With the factory Winchester 300 gr hp, recoil is a non issue.  I have not shot the Buffalo Bore +P ammo in the encore pistol, yet.  I just can't bring myself to pay  $40.00 for a box of 20.  For that I could have everything to reload.  I shot a little deer last year with the factory 300, worked fine, but it's a factory round.  I just hate using factory rounds; I think it's a pride thing.  Anyway,  I just wanted to see if any had shot those BB+ P's out of the encore pistol.  Any coments on how they shot, or what big game was taken.

I don't know about the 350 gr but the 430 gr Cast Buffalo Bore factory load in my 15 inch Encore ran 1770 fps average velocity.
With the 350 gr Speer bullet which is what Buffalo Bore uses and CCI primers and Starline brass I got 2000 fps with a charge 1 gr less than Speers #13 manual using AA2015 with the bullet seated just barely shy of the lands.
