Lee R.E.A.L. bullets, perform well?
« on: October 04, 2006, 12:35:39 PM »
I've never tried these, thinking of seeing how they work in my .54 Lyman GPH with a 32" twist.

Anybody used these? How well did they perform? Are they cast from pure lead or alloy? What lube?

While I think you can buy REAL bullets or that design I do not know where but I have seen them advertised, I know most cast their own with a Lee mould. They should be of pure lead for easy engraving of the rifleing onto the bullet and I have them in 54 and 50 and they have worked fine for me.

Thanks  Yes Quigley inspired me to own a buffler gun. Never figured I could afford a Sharps and back then there was such a waiting time for the ones made here in the US. SO I had a chance to trade a 44 mag Ruger Pistol for a Origional Remington Rolling Block the smokeless Military one made with better steel mine is marked 1902 and was in 7MM I had it rebarreled to 45/70 with a Green Mountain Full Octagon Barrel at 32 inches. I really like that gun. Jim

They are very accurate with either light or heavy powder charges.
Use pure lead or they are a pain in the butt to start down the barrel.
I have used them with all the way up to a 1-66 in. twist and they still
shot good. I have never seen them for sale, I bought a 2 cavity mold .

I'm gonna find out, I've just taken delivery of a T/C White Mountain Carbine. I've not checked the twist yet but it has the QLA muzzle. I've a 250 grain R. E. A. L. mold and will order some 320 from Blackjack Hill.
I prefer real black powder, currently using Grafs private label which is made by Wano in Germany. They recently had a fire at the mill, so may end up with some Goex.  ;)

I`ve had a white mt carbine for about 6 years, if you have the qla it is 1:38 twist like mine. It likes real black powder & a bullet of approx 240gr. I use a peep & hold 2 inch groups at 75 yards. I always wanted to cast my own bullets, where do you get the lee molds?  Mike

The heavier bullet should shoot better in the faster twist. That one you have should shoot good in the 1 in 66 twist try dropping the powder charge say start out at 60 grains and work it up at 5 grain increments until you find a load that works with that bullet.
