1st problem with a T/C barrel......
« on: October 05, 2006, 05:28:17 AM »
I've always been very satisified with T/C products but recently had my first bad experience. I just bought a new Encore 7mm/08 stainless 15" barrel and noticed the locking lug was very gritty feeling and sticky. I pulled out the lug and found a large amount of what appears to be the sandblast grit they finish the barrels with in the hole. I'm glad I discovered this before it worked its way into the action but I'm not pleased. What ticks me off even more is the fact a SS 209X50 ML barrel I've been shooting for about two years had the same grit in the same place, although not near as much. I checked it after finding the problem with the 7/08 barrel. I wrote T/C and enclosed the grit so they could see it for themselves, I'll post their reply when I get it.

Anyone else had this problem with stainless barrels?

This is not only with TC products.  I never fire a new gun unless I disassemble, clean and lube it myself.  It is amazing the amount of chips and grit I find in most new guns.  The exception is the Glock I bought last summer was clean as a whistle.  It doesn't take that long to do and I am sure that they last longer and work better without the debris and grit.

Yeah, I went through four Ruger Super Redhawks at the dealer and bought the tightest one. Went home and cleaned it before lubing it with the super oil (EEZOX) ,and guess what? The crud (chips, dried cutting coolant,???) was making the action lock-up tighter. So now still I have SRH that's loose as a goose with a lousy trigger to boot.
